1.Western Rother Fisheries Action Plan
A strategic plan for the future management of the Western Rother and its tributaries and associated stillwaters has been prepared in consultation with representatives of local fisheries and is described in this document. As far as possible it is based on fact and sound science but local knowledge and experience have been taken into account where relevant.
The Fisheries Action Plan sets out in a series of tables a programme of work to be undertaken by the Agency and its partners to maintain, develop and enhance the fisheries within the Western Rother catchment. The plan also encourages collaborative work between stakeholders.
The Environment Agency published the Arun and Western Streams Local Environment Agency Plan (LEAP) in July 2000. This document set out the work that the Agency planned to undertake over the ensuing five years to address environmental issues and concerns. The LEAP identified not only internal Agency cross-functional objectives but also actions that are adopted as drivers for the Environment Agency Sussex Area. This Fisheries Action Plan should be viewed as a sub-set of the Arun and Western Stream LEAP. The document shows how the LEAP strategy may be implemented at local level.
